Evil Empire’s Prince of Persia roguelite launches to positive reviews

Ubisoft surprised us all when it announced that it had teamed up with indie studio and Dead Cells’ developer, Evil Empire, to work on a new roguelite game in the Prince of Persia series. Dead Cells is one of the highest-rated modern rogue-style games, so now we get to see that expertise applied to Ubisoft’s famous and long-running series.

The Rogue Prince of Persia is already getting off to a good start. The game has officially launched via Steam Early Access today and so far, the majority of reviews are positive. Players have praised the combat and parkour. The prevailing sentiment right now seems to be, if you like Dead Cells and Prince of Persia, you will like this game.

The game has players taking on an invading army. As the prince, it will be your goal to fight through levels with acrobatic combat moves and platforming, before encountering major boss fights.

As a roguelite game, you are supposed to die eventually, and the story will progress when you do eventually hit 0HP. However, you will slowly amass new abilities and weapons on each run.

The game features a hand-drawn art style, which is certainly unique. The Rogue Prince of Persia is expected to remain in Early Access for at least a year, with various content updates set to drop for early buyers along the way. Once the game reaches its final release form, we expect it to also be announced for consoles.
