Embark Studios high-octane FPS ‘The Finals’ enters open beta

Last night during the Xbox Partner Preview stream, we got a new trailer for The Finals, a new multiplayer game developed by Embark Studios, which was founded by former Battlefield developers. Now, you can dive into the game and try it for yourself thanks to the open beta.

The Finals' open beta begins today for PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X/S consoles and PS5. The beta runs up to the 5th of November, so there is plenty of time to download the game, get a group together and test it out.

The full game will be a free-to-play multiplayer game, centred around the idea of players being contestants in a live game show. Players will walk out to various maps platformed in the middle of a huge arena, with access to weapons and other tools. There is environmental destruction, portable cover points, C4 bombs and more, allowing players to dynamically adjust to any situation on the battlefield. Competing squads will be tasked with staying alive and stealing a cache on the map before the opposing players.

Based on the trailer, the game does look like fun. We don't have a release date for the full game yet, but it should become available before the end of the year if the beta goes well.

Currently folks are reporting issues with the PS5 version of the game, with players encountering crashes. Others are waiting for their beta access request to be approved on Steam, so we can't get a good grasp on how people are finding the game just yet.

KitGuru Says: I have a tendency to be bored by multiplayer shooter trailers during streams like the Xbox Partner Preview but The Finals did stand out to me. The game looks like a lot of fun, now we'll just have to jump in and find out if it plays well first-hand.
