EA says the next Battlefield will be a “reimagination”

In the run-up to Battlefield 2042, EA and DICE both talked a big game. At one point, development was going ‘extremely well' and the game was set to usher in a new age of Battlefield. The game ended up releasing in a buggy state and failing to really live up to expectations. Now, EA is beginning to talk about the next Battlefield game, which will apparently be another “reimagination” for the series.

As part of EA's recent quarterly earnings report (transcripted by Key to Gaming), CEO, Andrew Wilson, touched on the next Battlefield game, saying that it will be a “reimagination of Battlefield as a truly connected ecosystem”, whatever that means. It is our hope that this includes reintroducing a proper single-player campaign, rather than small tutorial missions.

Speaking of a Battlefield campaign, EA did recently set up a new studio to work on a new single-player Battlefield experience. Whether that ends up being a standalone release, or part of the next Battlefield game from DICE, still remains to be seen.

At this point when it comes to Battlefield, I think many are of a ‘believe it when we see it' mindset. There was a lot of hype leading into Battlefield 2042, only for much of that to be dashed by the beta and final game. Hopefully the next game can deliver on its promises at launch.

KitGuru Says: It would be our hope that EA learned the right lessons from Battlefield 2042's launch but we'll have to wait and see. If we're starting to hear about the next game now, there's a chance we could see it release late next year.
