Diablo 4’s first PTR will go live in April as Season 4 launch delayed several weeks

Earlier this month, Blizzard announced that Diablo 4 would finally be getting a Public Test Realm, allowing the most dedicated players to test upcoming changes early, and provide feedback before things roll out to all players. Now, we have more details, with the very first PTR test set to go live for PC players on the 2nd of April.

Last night's Diablo IV developer stream brought about a lot of good news, including a deeper dive into the codex of power, itemisation and loot overhauls. Unfortunately, while many of these changes sound fantastic, they are going to take some time to implement. As a result, the current season is being extended by one month. This is an unfortunate turn of events, as many players have been dissatisfied with Season 3, particularly due to its underwhelming seasonal mechanic and content additions.

Fortunately, Season 4 is looking to be the big turning point for the game that players have been waiting for. We've already covered some of the major mechanical changes heading to the game starting with the next seasonal update. If you want to preview these changes ahead of time, you will be able to access the Diablo IV PTR server starting on the 2nd of April, allowing Blizzard to gather crucial feedback and make final tweaks ahead of Season 4's launch. Do note that progress made in the PTR will be temporary – you'll have to start over again when Season 4 officially drops.

Diablo IV Season 3 will now end on the 14th of May instead. Season 4 will go live that same day, likely around 6PM GMT, as has been the case for previous seasons.

KitGuru Says: I am looking forward to jumping back into Diablo 4 next season, but then again, I was one of the few who loved the game in its current state, although I did not like the new seasonal mechanic in the current season. If these new changes can generate good word of mouth, then Blizzard may start to claw back lapsed players and perhaps convince new players to finally jump in too.
