Diablo 4’s first expansion to be titled ‘Lord of Hatred’

Blizzard has already confirmed plans for at least two Diablo IV expansions. The base game's campaign already gave us plenty of hints as to where the story will go next but now thanks to the efforts of dataminers, we have some confirmation.

Blizzard recently released a new technical alpha build of Diablo 4 to playtesters and much like in the run-up to the original game's release, details have been mined and leaked. YouTuber Ybubaka was the first to detail the leak, which appears to confirm that the first Diablo 4 expansion will be called “Lord of Hatred”.

If you have played Diablo 4's main campaign already, you should know what this means. Mephisto features prominently in the campaign but he only appears as a talking wolf, looking to team up with the main character to trap Lillith. Mephisto also goes by the name Lord of Hatred, so needless to say, he'll be the big bad of the expansion.

The expansion will apparently introduce a new class known as the Spiritborn and add in the Kurast region from the Diablo 2 map, which will be a key setting in the expansion's story.

There were a few other prominent Diablo characters that have yet to make an appearance in Diablo 4, so there are plenty of options for future expansions as well.

The first Diablo 4 expansion won't arrive until sometime in 2024. In the meantime, Blizzard is winning players back with Diablo 4's second season of content, which has made loot farming and levelling a faster a more enjoyable experience. We are expecting another season or two before Diablo 4's first expansion drops.

KitGuru Says: People may have been disappointed in Diablo 4's endgame but the main campaign was fantastic from start to finish. With that in mind, I think a lot of people will be looking to jump back in once the first expansion comes around.
