Diablo 4 to get annual expansions

Diablo 4 has been out for a couple of months now and most of the hardcore players are now done for the game's first season. Blizzard plans to improve the game's content offering with Season 2 in October but in 2024, the game should get a more substantial boost with the first major expansion.

During an interview with Dexerto, Diablo franchise lead, Rod Fergusson, talked a bit about Blizzard's plans for the game's longevity. He mentioned the game's quarterly seasons, which we already knew about, while also confirming plans for annual expansions. Previously, Blizzard had stated that Diablo 4 would get multiple expansions, but this is the first time we have heard about an annual release plan.

Fergusson said the plan for Diablo 4 stretches for “years and years”, adding that the first season is seen as setting the foundation for the game, with plans to build up from there. We already see Blizzard making efforts to improve the amount of content in the endgame, with Season 2 set to release in October with five extra endgame bosses to face off against, alongside new Vampiric powers.

A Diablo 4 expansion would obviously be bigger than a season, including new story content, possibly new locations or map changes, and potentially an increased level cap, as we saw with Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls.

If we are due to get annual Diablo 4 expansions, then the first should arrive in Summer 2024.

KitGuru Says: I've spent around 400 hours with Diablo 4 so far so I certainly got my money's worth but the game's first season was disappointing. The seasons will help with general content but I think I might take a longer break and wait for the game's first big expansion. Are any of you still playing Diablo 4?
