Dead Island 2 gets surprise Game Pass launch

Just a few days ago, Microsoft announced the latest batch of games for Xbox Game Pass to wrap up the rest of the month. It would seem that they missed one on the list, as today, Xbox players suddenly found that they had access to Dead Island 2 via Game Pass.

Dead Island 2 is now available on Xbox Game Pass. However, there is a catch, this is only available on Xbox consoles, so PC Game Pass players don't have access, at least for now. That may change later in the year, as the developers are working to bring the game to more platforms, including Steam, after a period of exclusivity to the Epic Games Store. Perhaps a Windows Store version is also on the way, which would allow the game to be listed on Game Pass for PC.

Dead Island 2 launched last year after a decade of development troubles. The game turned out surprisingly well with fun combat, but the campaign wasn't necessarily anything to write home about.

The game was first announced at E3 2014, but ended up bouncing around between multiple studios, before finally landing at its final destination in 2019, where an internal Deep Silver team finished the game's development.
