CD Projekt Red has been cooking up a surprise 2.1 update for Cyberpunk 2077

While CD Projekt Red had previously made it clear that Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion would be the last major updates for the game, it turns out the studio still has a couple of surprises up its sleeve. With the Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition launching next week, CDPR has also prepared a new game update, teasing “hotly anticipated game features”. 

Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 already overhauled most of the game, completely revamping the in-game police system, the skill tree and player builds, and even how armour and gear upgrades work. However, after a few weeks of “grinding in secret”, as the game's quest director puts it, we're now getting a 2.1 update alongside the launch of the game's Ultimate Edition. The 2.1 update will be available to all who already own the game – the new Ultimate Edition is primarily for those who have yet to pick up Cyberpunk 2077 at all, packaging the base game and expansion together, and putting the game on disc for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 for the first time.

CD Projekt Red isn't giving away what it plans to bring with the 2.1 update, but it is teasing “new and hotly anticipated gameplay elements”, so we'll have to wait and see just what that means, but don't expect anything too crazy outside of maybe some vehicle updates, some new apartments, etc.

Unfortunately, it already seems that Marcin Momot has shot down the idea of New Game+ being a feature with this update. Previously, developers have stated that adding one would be a very complex task, so if you really want to play the game again, you'll be better off starting a new V and opting for a different lifepath. If you want to skip some of the early game stuff, you can choose the ‘skip to Phantom Liberty' option, which drops you right after the Relic heist in the game's main story.

The CDPR team will be revealing more about the 2.1 update in a stream later this evening.

KitGuru Says: I've been jumping back and forth between The Witcher 3's next-gen edition and Cyberpunk 2077 over the last month or so. I still think The Witcher 3 might be the better game in the early hours, but Cyberpunk 2077 makes huge leaps once you get past the opening.
