Witcher 3 dev explains Xbox One exclusive items in Collector’s Edition

CD Projekt Red promised that there would be no exclusive in-game items included with The Witcher 3 on any platform but it didn't say anything about physical items in its Collectors Edition. Xbox One owners who buy the Collectors Edition will receive a cloth map of the game and two decks for the upcoming card game, Gwent.

As you can imagine, some people are a little unhappy that they won't receive these items but CD Projekt Red Co-Founder, Marcin Iwiński, has spoken to Eurogamer, explaining why the developer decided to partner with Microsoft:

“I do understand that these extra items might be desirable for Witcher fans playing the game on other platforms. However, as we are not offering any platform or retail exclusive DLCs or any other form of gameplay differentiation, we do have to find other ways to support our partners.”

“What is the reason? Why are we doing this? We need the support of partners to make our game visible worldwide. This should hopefully translate to better sales, which will in consequence allow us to do what we have been doing for the last 10 years, i.e. reinvest this money to make more great RPGs, while still sticking to our values.”

If you still consider that adding two decks of Gwent cards and a map of the in-game world to the Xbox One CE equals us betraying our values and not fulfilling our promises, well, it does make us sad, but the final call is always yours to make.”

The important thing to take away from this is that the base game is still no different on any platform. Xbox One owners will get a slightly nicer map and two decks for a card game that you might not ever play.

KitGuru Says: I don't see this as a big deal but then again, I don't have much interest in the cards included, although the cloth map does sound like quite a nice addition. What do you guys think of this? Should people care that the Xbox One's collectors edition is slightly better?
