CD Projekt Red appoints director for upcoming Witcher trilogy

Last month CD Projekt Red revealed its upcoming roadmap, including multiple Witcher games. Aside from a complete remake of The Witcher 1, CD Projekt Red has also formed a new team to work on a brand new Witcher trilogy. Now, the new Witcher saga officially has a director.

Sebastian Kalemba has been at CD Projekt Red for a while now, having worked on The Witcher 3, its two expansions and Cyberpunk 2077. Now, he has been appointed as game director for the new Witcher saga.

Not much is known about the next Witcher saga at this time, but CD Projekt Red is in the process of setting up the core team to begin pre-production. Additionally, CD Projekt Red is also forming a new studio in Boston to work on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, so both franchises will continue to be worked on moving forward.

The new Witcher game, and its planned sequels, will all be built on Unreal Engine 5, rather than CD Projekt Red's own RED Engine, which powered Cyberpunk 2077, as well as The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3.

KitGuru Says: We're still years away from seeing The Witcher 4, but we've had a number of encouraging announcements already this year. The move to Unreal Engine 5 should be particularly big, as it will allow the team to spend less time developing tools for the engine and more time on content creation.
