Borderlands 3 is finally getting crossplay support on PlayStation

Last year, Gearbox updated Borderlands 3 with full cross-play support, allowing players on console and PC to group up. However, for reasons unknown, cross-play was not allowed on the PlayStation version of the game. This was brought back up again recently, as it was confirmed that Gearbox's new game, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, will feature cross-play on all platforms, including PlayStation.

Following on from the cross-play announcement for Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, publisher 2K Games has confirmed (via Eurogamer) that it will be enabling cross-play for the PS4 and PS5 versions of Borderlands 3.

There is no exact date for when the update will go live, but the game already features cross-play for PC. Mac, Stadia and Xbox consoles. With that in mind, the update to enable cross-play with PlayStation hopefully shouldn't take too long.

Unfortunately, 2K Games, Gearbox and PlayStation have never really confirmed why cross-play was blocked for Borderlands 3 on PlayStation. Sony's stance on cross-play changed in 2020 and at this point, many major games enable cross-play between all platforms without issue.

KitGuru Says: Borderlands 3 isn't exactly a headline maker these days, but adding more platforms to the cross-play matchmaking pool should be good news for the longevity of its multiplayer.
