Blizzard has six new Overwatch maps in development

If you have been playing Overwatch recently and hoping for some fresh scenery then you might be in luck as there are currently plans to release around three new maps ‘standard' maps this year. There are also an additional three ‘non-standard' maps in development, presumably for future events/brawls.

According to Overwatch director, Jeff Kaplan, there are currently three new standard maps currently in development in the play testing phase. These three maps are “likely” to release this year as long as no unexpected holdups occur.

In a thread asking about the planned frequency of new map releases, Jeff Kaplan said: “We currently have 3 maps in development, all past the initial playtesting phase that are “standard” maps (QP/Comp). While something could always change, all 3 of those are looking likely for a release this year.”

However, it turns out that Blizzard also have three ‘non-standard' maps in development as well. These aren't maps that you will see in standard quick/competitive play. Instead, these maps will pop up during events or brawls. Aside from all of that, the Overwatch team has “a few other experiments” going on, so it seems there is plenty of fresh content in the works.
