Black Myth: Wukong surges to 2.2 million concurrent Steam players on day-one

The newly launched Black Myth: Wukong has swiftly garnered a staggering 2.2 million concurrent players on Steam, a figure confirmed by SteamDB. The action RPG saw a peak of 1,443,570 users simultaneously shortly after launch, a figure that has since grown to over 2 million over the launch day period.

To put this into perspective, this player count outdoes major single-player hits like Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk 2077 and is close to rivalling massive multiplayer titles like Counter-Strike, Dota and PUBG on Steam.

Currently, Black Myth Wukong also holds the title of the #1 selling game on Steam and in the weeks leading up to launch, it was also one of the most pre-ordered games on the store. While some press reviews have been more critical of the game, the current Steam User Reviews are very positive, with over 70,000 positive reviews, versus just 2,500 negative reviews, giving the game a 96% positive rating.

In all, these numbers show that Game Science, the small indie studio behind the game, has landed on a big hit. The game is also one heck of a graphical showcase, with full ray-tracing features, as well as tools like DLSS to keep your frame rate from dipping too far after switching on some of the heavier graphical effects.
