Bethesda exec says Redfall won’t be abandoned and improvements are coming

We haven't really heard anything about Redfall since the game's launch back in May. Since then, most talk has shifted towards Bethesda's new game, Starfield. However, Pete Hines says they have not left the game behind and there are still updates to come.

In an interview with GI.biz, Hines touched on the state of Redfall, saying “we are going to get it to be a good game”, in part because of Game Pass and the constant potential for new players to discover and try the game.

Here's the full quote from Hines: “The Elder Scrolls Online's PC launch was not flawless but we stuck with it. Now it's like this insanely popular multiplatform. It's the same with Fallout 76. Redfall is no different for us. Okay, we didn't get the start we wanted, but it's still a fun game… and we're going to keep working on it. We're going to do 60fps. We're going to get it to be a good game because we know, as a first-party studio, Game Pass lives forever. There will be people ten years from now who are going to join Game Pass, and Redfall will be there.”

Hines added that Bethesda typically doesn't quit or abandon games just because of a rough start. Fallout 76 and The Elder Scrolls Online are both good examples of that. ESO had a middling reception at the beginning but through updates and expansions, the developers managed to carve out a space in the market. Fallout 76 was critically panned at release but eventually, the team added more fan-requested elements from the single-player Fallout games to flesh the world out and bring players back into the fold.

We have no timeline for when major Redfall improvements will arrive but we'll hopefully get another update for the game before the end of the year. The 60FPS update for the console version should also help with overall sentiment towards the game from Xbox players.

KitGuru Says: I played a small amount of Redfall but ultimately, there was nothing there in the first couple of hours that really grabbed me. Depending on the ambition of the team, it could transform into a great game eventually, but personally I would like to see Arkane move back to making the games it is best known for.
