Baldur’s Gate 3 will leave Early Access in 2023

After launching into Early Access in 2020, Larian has been quietly been working away on Baldur’s Gate 3 to get it ready for full release. While initially the studio was aiming for a 2022 release window, the developers now have their sights set on 2023 for the full game.

Larian hinted that this would be the case back in February, saying that “our expectation is that Baldur's Gate 3 will release out of Early Access in 2023”. Now, the studio has settled on that, writing the following in the latest developer update: “By the Nine Hell, we've added a lot of great stuff already, and there's more where that came from. So join us in early access on our journey to Baldur's Gate 3, or come along in 2023 when the game releases.”

The update puts an end to rumours that the game may still meet a late 2022 release date. Currently, Larian has not given a more specific release window beyond ‘2023', so it could land anywhere on the calendar. Previous Larian titles like Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 released in June and September respectively, so we'd imagine Larian is targeting a Summer launch for Baldur's Gate 3.

Currently, the Early Access version of Baldur's Gate 3 offers a chunk of the full game, with full access to gameplay features. However, story content is limited to avoid spoilers for the full game.

KitGuru Says: We're in for another year or so of Early Access updates, but if Larian's previous work is any indication, we'll be in for a fantastic RPG at the end of the road. Have any of you tried Baldur's Gate 3 in Early Access?
