Assassin’s Creed Shadows delayed to early 2025, will be available on Steam day-one

Earlier this week, Ubisoft announced that it was pulling its planned Assassin's Creed Shadows showcase at TGS. Additionally, the company cancelled press previews of the game, which were due to go live in early October ahead of the game's launch in November. Now, we know why – Ubisoft is delaying the game.

After seeing the feedback from the launch of Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft is now being extra cautious with the launch of its latest mainline Assassin's Creed title. Rather than launching on November 15th, the game will get an extra couple of months in the oven, with a new launch date set for February 14th 2025. Whether or not that new date sticks still remains to be seen.

In addition to the delay, Ubisoft has also made some changes to its DLC plans for the game. There will no longer be a traditional Season Pass, and those who pre-order will get the game's first expansion for free.

On top of all of that, Ubisoft has also confirmed that it is planning to bring its new games to Steam on Day One once again, after a few years of delayed releases for Valve's platform. It would seem that Ubisoft sales have fallen to such a low that the company needs to try absolutely whatever it can to ensure Assassin's Creed Shadows is a success at launch.

KitGuru Says: The issue Ubisoft faces now is that the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima is dropping in 2025, although that game will likely drop in the later months of the year, giving Ubisoft a considerable head start as long as they can meet the new early 2025 launch date.
