Nvidia confirm Grand Theft Auto 5 is coming to PC

PC gamers are always miffed when the consoles owners get Grand Theft Auto before the beloved PC version. In the past it has taken RockStar between 9 months and a year to get the PC version out to market.

There are two theories for this. The first is that it takes the developer a lot more time to code the title to make good use of all the latest PC hardware, and to ensure it will run well with the millions of hardware combinations possible.

The second theory is that they don't want PC pirates cracking the game too early and ruining console sales. After all many PC gamers will own an Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 console and have no option but to get the more expensive console version on launch day. The option of an easy cracked exe with a handful of doctored dll's for the PC may prove too tempting for many. This is why some PC titles are released after the console version.

Our Facebook page has been littered with complaints from readers, and there are petitions already online to demand that Rockstar bring the title to the PC. Some sources have claimed that Rockstar have no intention this time of bringing the game to the PC at all.

We may have missed it, but The Nvidia earnings call did bring to light the fact that the game would be released, although there is obviously no date mentioned.

Chris Evenden, Senior Director, IR said “The PC market is evolving. As entry level laptops face pressure from tablets. Yet sales of specialty PCs like gaming systems and work stations continue to grow. The disparity reflects how consumers use these different classes of PCs. Many consumers look for PC as a general purpose device they can use for browsing, email, social media video. But much of this can be better served by a tablet. In contrast, gamers are preparing their systems for a strong roster of games coming this fall, including blockbuster franchises, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Grand Theft Auto V and Assassin's Creed IV.”

Kitguru says: At least this will give some peace of mind to the readers who are asking us to share petitions for RockStar to bring the game to the PC platform. It will be coming, but expect a good year long delay behind the console version.
