But enough about video games. Those things can rot your brain anyway. How about a nice, simple tabletop experience?
Ok so maybe not simple, but Dropzone Commander is a beautiful looking game, from the mind of designer David Lewis. It's set in the far flung future of 2670, where humanity has been pushed out of Earth and its other highly inhabitable planets by an alien menace known as the Scourge. Now though it's taking the fight to its enemies to try and reclaim its homeworld.
The miniatures are at a 10mm scale and games can be played across battlefields of 3'x4′ or 6'x4′ depending on the size of the competing armies. The starter set comes with a manual, two starter armies and everything you need to play – including a tape measure – all for £60.
Mr Lewis (above) designed the game, wrote the fluff, modelled the units and painted some of them to a very high standard. Have a look at a few of them below:
Dropzone Commander is available now from Hawk Wargames, with the developers planned to grow the game over the ensuing years, as well as advancing the story with each new expansion. At the moment humans are just making their way back to Earth, but a couple of kits down the road and you could be fighting in our once-upon-a-home-world.

KitGuru Says: There's some great big games here at Multiplay, but the indies and the more unique stuff always grab my eye that bit more. Dropzone Commander has been out for about a year already, have any of you guys tried it? Is it fun?
