However if you're more in the mood for VR horror, then Monstrum from Team Junkfish is worth checking out. Think Dreadhalls on a rusty, abandoned ship. It's a little difficult to get the full immersion with the sounds of the show on around you, but even then it delivers a palpable sense of fear.
For something a bit different, Kitty Powers' Matchaker is worth trying out. Out now for tablets and phones, this game is a genre mashup, combining a dating sim with management functions and a bit of gambling too. It's light and querky and certainly stands out among the more serious stalls around it.
Mutiny is a fun little game currently going through its Kickstarter campaign, that has up to 16 players working cooperatively to take down increasing numbers of enemy pirate ships, in an isometric, smash-bros like brawler. It's fast paced, funny and has an endearing art style.
16 players are achieved by having multiple Xbox controllers plugged into a PC, but also through a mobile application that conects players through WiFi. As long as your WiFi can handle it too, that means that you can – theoretically – have no limits on player numbers. The developer even said they'd tested it with 50 players and it worked fine.
Fireproof games is in attendance, showing off its second sequel to the hit puzzler The Room for Android and iOS. The new version is just as pretty and puzzling as ever, and even features a surprisingly creepy person performing tasks in the background. I'm excited to find out more when the game launches next year.
FireProof's other game is the Oculus Rift DK2 supporting Omega Agent which has players flying around a fictional, colourful city with a jetpack on. Designed specifically for the Samsung GearVR and therefore a wireless experience, Fireproof was restricted to using DK2 sets at the show since it wasn't allowed to show GearVR footage.
Introversion, the guys behind Darwinia, Uplink and Defcon had one of the larger booths in the indie zone, giving anyone that wanted a go at the latest build of Prison Architect a chance to do so. It's looking better than ever, even if there is still a fair way to go before it hits v1.0.
Other indie games I didn't get a chance to play, but drew crowds throughout most of the day included Tiny Keep, the ever hilarious brawler Gang Beasts and stylsed stealth title Volume.
Platforming shooter Velocity 2X and Never alone also garnered a lot of attention for their tight gameplay and unique visuals.
Though I must admit Slain really grabbed by eye with some utterly eye-watering pixel art.
Speed Runners drew some of the biggest crowds of the whole indie zone with its hilarious and frustrating multiplayer races, but if you're looking for a vehicle building and battling arena game, Terra Tech is one you have to try.
Lets hope whatever Genre Envirogolf is never lives past Envirogolf. I play games for fun, not to help an environment that isn’t having an issue.
