Steam is now available in Tesla cars

Tesla's infotainment system has proved to be gaming-capable in the past, having been used to run a limited selection of titles, including AAA games like Cyberpunk 2077. Now, you can play more games than ever before on the system, as it now supports Steam.

Starting this week, owners of Tesla cars with the powerful Navi 23-based infotainment system can access their Steam accounts to download and play games from their library. Like Steam on PC/Linux, you can even use a keyboard or a gamepad to play games and navigate through the Steam app.

Elon Musk claims Tesla Model S and X users with the infotainment system can now play “1000s” of games, including Cyberpunk 2077 (shown in the video above) and Elden Ring. Other games showcased in the teaser include GTA V, Forza Horizon 4 and 5, Doom Eternal, NBA 2K23, and Deep Rock Galactic.

As a reminder of its specs, Tesla's infotainment system comes with a 4C/8T Zen+ embedded CPU that can clock up to 3.8GHz. The Navi 23 GPU comes with 28CUs and a clock speed of 2.8GHz, offering 10 TFLOPS of GPU power, very close to what the PS5 console can do.

KitGuru says: Considering all the marketing regarding the infotainment system's gaming capabilities, it was only a matter of time before it received support for Steam. With the car's sound system, gaming on it could be pretty fun. Just don't do it while driving, regardless of having autopilot enabled.
