Split Fiction is the new co-op game from It Takes Two creator

Josef Fares, the charismatic director of Hazelight Studios, took to the stage at The Game Awards to reveal the studio's next co-op title: Split Fiction. This mind-bending adventure thrusts two young women into a simulated world of their creation.

In Split Fiction, players take on the roles of two writers who find themselves trapped within a digital realm based on their collaborative novel. As they navigate this fantastical world, they discover that an evil company is attempting to hijack their story. Fares promises a dynamic and ever-changing experience, with each level offering unique gameplay mechanics and challenges. He teased encounters with dragons that evolve from hatchlings to “full-ass dragons” capable of flight and fiery destruction.

Staying true to Hazelight's co-op-focused philosophy, Split Fiction will require only one copy of the game to play with a friend. The Friend's Pass feature, which allows players to invite a friend to play for free, is back and better than ever, with crossplay support across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via Steam.

In classic Josef Fares fashion, he emphasised the game's focus on pure, unadulterated gameplay: “That's what Hazelight is about”, he declared. “No loot boxes, no microtransactions, and no bullshit. You just get the game”. Split Fiction will be published by EA under the EA Originals label, continuing the successful partnership that brought us It Takes Two and A Way Out. The game is set to launch on March 6th, 2025, for PC and consoles.
