Remedy and Annapurna are bringing Control and Alan Wake to film and TV

Annapurna Interactive has announced that it will invest in Remedy's upcoming game, Control 2. This partnership agreement will see Annapurna funding 50% of the production costs for Control's sequel, additionally, Annapurna will be helping Remedy bring Control and Alan Wake to film and TV. 

This comes after Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala, spoke about expanding both franchises following Remedy's acquisition of complete franchise rights to Control in February. According to the terms of the agreement, Remedy will receive a larger revenue share from Control 2's sales once the production costs are recouped. As for Annapurna, it will benefit from increased cash flow from other media based on the franchise.

This is not Annapurna's first venture into adapting games for cinema or television, as the company had already announced plans to adapt BlueTwelve's Stray for the big screen.

While Control 2 was production-ready by early August, Remedy's immediate focus remains on its multiplayer spinoff “Condor” and remakes for Max Payne 1 & 2.

KitGuru says: Despite Alan Wake 2's critical acclaim, the game didn't sell as well as many would have thought. By May 2024, the game hadn't recouped the development costs – the fact that the game is an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC won't be helping that. However, with this new collaboration, that limitation will most likely be a thing of the past, and future Control/Alan Wake games can debut directly on other PC platforms, including Steam.
