Path of Exile II delayed to finish “server infrastructure work”

In a recent announcement, Grinding Gear Games, the developer behind Path of Exile, revealed that fans of the action RPG series will need to wait a bit longer for the early access release of Path of Exile 2. Originally set to launch on November 15th, the game will now be available to players starting December 6th, following a three-week delay.

Game director Jonathan Rogers addressed the community in a video update, explaining that the postponement is primarily due to crucial “server infrastructure work” that must be finalised before the game's launch. This preparatory work is essential, as it concerns the integration of microtransactions across both Path of Exile 1 and the sequel.

Rogers elaborated that ensuring a seamless experience requires comprehensive account integration across all platforms. This comes with the added responsibility of safeguarding existing accounts and purchased items, ensuring players can transition to the upcoming without losing their assets.

While it's understandable that players are eager to dive into Path of Exile 2, Rogers' decision to prioritise user experience over a hastily prepared launch deserves recognition. It signals a commitment to quality and a thoughtful approach, ensuring that when players finally enter the world of Wraeclast once more, they can do so confidently and without the frustrations of a rushed launch.
