Netflix Games is now available on Android, iOS coming soon

Netflix is finally expanding its reach to video games. Starting today, any Netflix subscriber can log in to the app, select any of the five titles currently available for download, and start playing them. Netflix plans to increase the games library with more than just casual games, including immersive experiences based on Netflix franchises.

It was only a matter of time before Netflix went after a share of the gaming market. Launching today on Android and coming soon to iOS, the Netflix app allows anyone with a Netflix subscription to download and play Stranger Things: 1984, Stranger Things 3: The Game, Shooting Hoops, Card Blast, and Teeter Up within the app. There are no additional fees for playing any of the games.

If you're accessing Netflix through an Android device, you'll see a dedicated games row/tab with all the games available for download. Games will come in the language set in the preferences of the user's Netflix profile or English if the language isn't available yet. It's also worth noting users can play these games without access to the Internet.

Mike Verdu, VP of game development at Netflix, stated that the company plans to design games for all kinds of players, from casual gamers and beginners up to hardcore and old-school gamers. These are Netflix's first steps into the gaming market, but the company is already promising to bring more to its entertainment lineup “in the months ahead”.

KitGuru says: Now it's making sense why Netflix acquired the Oxenfree team. The streaming platform can use Night School studio to develop more than your typical mobile game and use Netflix Games platform to publish them. Do you have an active Netflix subscription? Will you be trying Netflix Games?
