GTA remastered trilogy was a sales hit despite major launch issues

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition didn't have the best launch. Besides the technical issues it presented, data miners discovered unlicensed music, a mod and even developer notes within the game's files. Despite all of that, the game has sold pretty well.

Take-Two Interactive has recently shared the latest sales numbers for the GTA franchise, which has amassed over 370 million copies sold in its lifetime. That's 15 million more than last November's figure, but what games have helped the most to increase it?

We know that GTA V sales are currently at 160 million, a 5 million increase over the previously announced sales figures. The publisher didn't specify where the remaining 10 million came from, but it's easy to figure it out.

Although there are residual sales from other GTA games, the bulk of the ten million sales is likely from the remastered trilogy. After all, this was the last GTA game to release. Take Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, even stated that the game exceeded sales expectations, so something close to ten million in a quarter shouldn't be that surprising.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition is currently available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and the Nintendo Switch. Boxed physical copies of the collection will be releasing for consoles this month, followed by iOS and Android versions of the game in the first half of 2022.
