Gearbox’s CEO teases Borderlands 4 amid poor movie reception

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has been very active on social media lately, in part to respond to feedback from the Borderlands movie. While most of the posts are fairly uninteresting complaints against critics, one did catch our eye thanks to mention of Borderlands 4 being in development.

Just to keep you in the loop, the Borderlands film is far from a success. It received negative reviews and had a less-than-stellar $16.5 million worldwide box office debut for its opening weekend, which is particularly disappointing given its $115 million budget.

In response, Pitchford said the following about X, with the ‘four' clearly referring to the next volume in the popular series:

“So what you’re saying is: You like what my friends and I do with our Borderlands video games even more than you like what some of the biggest and best cast and crew of film makers on the planet have done. I’m super flattered! We’re working extra hard four you on what’s next…”

This is not Pitchford's first hint at the next Borderlands game. In February, the Gearbox CEO said that the company is “working on something” and that the secret project is the “best thing we've ever done”. Gearbox announced earlier this year that a new Borderlands game was in active production, but there is no release date.
