Frostpunk 2 announced, takes place 30 years after the original

The snowy and post-apocalyptic Frostpunk is getting a sequel. The new title was being teased for a while, but now we have confirmation that the game is actually coming. Developed by the same studio, FrostPunk 2 will be set 30 years after the original, featuring the same infernal Winter that has been plaguing humankind.

While the first was more focused on humankind's survival, Frostpunk 2 will show how we, as humans, found a way to expand despite the harsh conditions. Instead of burning coal to produce heat and defrost the ice around the cities, players will work with oil as a resource and deal with whatever issues may arise.

Following the city-building and survival themes of the original game, players will have to keep everything in order as the leader of the metropolis. To lead, you'll have to choose what's best for the city. Work with other factions and decide how you treat them, always to ensure the welfare of the city and its inhabitants.

The game is being developed by 11Bit Studios, which has almost 70 developers. With the team growth, Jakub Stokalski, Frostpunk 2 Co-Director, said they can focus on more aspects of the game, including “the scale, the production value, and the quality of UX”. However, the team also wants to do “more than a straight-up sequel,” featuring “a wide universe of choices” that will shape society and the city.
