Epic filed a trademark for the ‘Epic Games Megaverse’ in late 2021

Like many other gaming companies, Epic Games is also interested in the Metaverse. It even announced it would invest $1 billion to accelerate its vision of the Metaverse, combining its IP with new technology to create new social experiences. Up to now, we didn't have a name for Epic's Metaverse, but a newly found trademark might point us in the right direction.

The trademark shared by VGC names Epic's Metaverse as the ‘Epic Games Megaverse'. Reading the trademark entry, we see it features an enormous list of goods and services, but most of them just seem somewhat generic, as expected.

In related news, Epic Games also invested in Spire Animation Studios, which worked in animation movies like How To Train Your Dragon, Cars 2, The Lego Batman Movie and Ratatouille. Both will work together to integrate Unreal Engine into Spire's feature animation technology stack, giving Spire the tools it needs to create worlds and experiences for the Metaverse.
