Battlefield 3 Reality Mod brings new life to the 11-year old FPS

It has been 11 years since Battlefield 3 first launched but the game is getting new life in 2022 thanks to the efforts of modders. This week, Battlefield 3: Reality Mod launched, offering a complete gameplay and UI overhaul for more tactical gameplay.

Battlefield 3's Reality mod is the passion project of over 80 contributors. Drawing inspiration from the BF2 “Project Reality” mod, this new mod was designed to offer the highest level of realism you've ever seen in Battlefield 3. To build it, the dev team used the VU (Venice Unleashed) modding framework, a BF3 modification featuring private server hosting, a higher tick rate, a built-in server browser and more.

Seeing the mod trailer, the first thing we noticed is the new UI, which looks much cleaner than the original. Visuals were also revamped, including new textures and models, 24-hour day and night cycles, dynamic weather and blurring on shooting and explosions, and more. Moreover, gunplay was modified, as we can see by the increased recoil in weapons. In this mod, there will be new maps, game modes, in-game VOIP, and many other features, as well as plans to add a few more.

To play online with the mod enabled, you'll need to join private servers running the same version of the mod as you are. You'll also require a legit copy of BF3 and all of its DLCs. Both Steam and Origin versions of the game will work with the mod when version 0.1 drops on July 17th.

KitGuru says: Will you be looking to give this mod a try? It might end up giving a better Battlefield experience than 2042, which still seems to be struggling to get on track.
