3DMark reveals new cross-platform Steel Nomad benchmark

Following 3DMark's recent 25th anniversary, the most popular graphics benchmark suite is now getting a new addition to its portfolio. Named Steel Nomad, this new benchmark aims to replace Time Spy as the new go-to cross-platform graphics benchmark.

Time Spy is a popular non-raytracing benchmark with over 48 million submissions, but it was released seven years ago. Considering the latest advancements in the graphics industry, it's outdated, and as such, it needs an update. That's where Steel Nomad comes in.

The Steel Nomad benchmark will run on all major operating systems, including Windows with the DirectX12 API, macOS and iOS with Metal, and Android and Linux with Vulkan. Because further information on the benchmark's functionality is unknown, we aren't sure if results from different APIs may be directly compared.

Steel Nomad will be added to the existing benchmark stack's list of 3DMark benchmark software. Its release date has not been announced, but the company has already shared some screenshots of the benchmark, providing a glimpse into the new scenes that might make your GPUs cry for help.
