Dying Light 2’s main story will take 20 hours to complete, not 500

Dying Light 2 is one of the year's most hotly anticipated games, but eyebrows were raised when the game's developers recently commented that it would take 500 hours to fully complete the game. Techland has now clarified those remarks by issuing an update on Twitter, affirming that the 500 hour figure is what it will take to ‘max out the game', with the main story being considerably shorter.

With open world games becoming bigger and bigger, the amount of time required to finish a game has increasingly become a topic of conversation in recent months. So when Dying Light 2's official Twitter account posted the news that the game would take 500 hours to complete, plenty of people had a thing or two to say.

Last night, however, perhaps in response to the reception received by their initial tweet, Techland issued an update confirming that the 500 hour figure is the ‘time needed to max out the game with all main and side quests, choices and endings, checking every place on the map, every dialogue and finding every collectible.' So if you are really enjoying the game and want to eke out every last second from it, you could make it last that long.

For those with less time on their hands however, Techland stated that the main story will take 20 hours to complete, and you can add another 60 hours to that if you want to complete all of the side quests.

I must admit I was a bit concerned when I first heard about the ‘500 hours to complete' story, as it does make you wonder how repetitive or generic all the quests will be, and whether or not the game is just enormous for the sake of it. Beating the main story in 20 hours sounds much more do-able however, so here's hoping the core gameplay mechanics will make that a fun-filled time.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is set to release on February 4 and you can find the Steam page HERE.
