Even starports aren’t safe from the Thargoid invasion in Elite: Dangerous

2017 is the year that the Thargoids emerged within Elite: Dangerous. The first sighting was in January, swiftly followed by a full-scale invasion in September. Now, the aggressors are targeting friendly starports.

Players began spotting the attacks in random locations, before congregating on Reddit to create a list of known locations targeted by the aliens. At this point, only Aegis stations have been affected, with “Titan's Daughter in the Taygeta system, Liman Legacy in HIP 16753 and the Oracle in the Pleiades Sector IR-W D1-55” all severely damaged.

This was all the doing of a brand new Thargoid variant, known as an Interceptor Medusa, that is able to use its shutdown field to neutralise the defences of the stations before attacking the reactor directly. “It’s like they wanted to cripple rather us rather than destroy us outright,” according to Galnet News.

Attacked stations are dangerous, as it has been confirmed that the cores are now unstable and producing an immense amount of heat. Any ship close enough will be cooked in a matter of minutes.

This was officially revealed by Elite: Dangerous developers to be a part of its ‘The Fall of the Orcale’ event that launched today, with Imgur user CmdrBadPlayer giving us brand new images to feast our eyes on.

KitGuru Says: It’s good to see Elite: Dangerous adding more content surrounding its most iconic villain, especially after the hype surrounding the Thargoid introduction. While it’s perhaps possible to take down these new Interceptor Medusa ships, remember to think smart. Does The Fall of the Orcale make you want to jump back in?
