Tumblr add mature rating to iOS application

Tumblr are trying to avoid the same problem that has plagued the Twitter Vine App. The company has included a 17 and over age warning for their iOS application, this will be seen by a new user and anyone who updates the software to version 3.2.4, released last night.

Tumblr add “You must be at least 17 years old to download this app” because it contains “Frequent/Intense Sexual Content or Nudity.”

The new version contains some bug fixes however when a user clicks on the 3.2.4 version they are forced to confirm they are over the age of 17. The application points out ‘age restricted material' when the user upgrades. ‘Tap OK to confirm you are 17 or over. Your content will then begin downloading immediately.'

The company are trying to circumvent a possible ban by Apple, especially after Tumblr founder David Karp acknowledged in an interview that between 2 and 4 percent of content on Tumblr is porn related.

Kitguru says: A wise move by the company.
