OCUK Titan 8500i Vortex System Review (Z77)

OCUK are using the Bitfenix Shinobi case which won our top award when we reviewed it last September.

Our review sample didn't contain the final retail accessories pack, although we did receive an engineering pre-delivery ‘check list', which was good to see.

This Shinobi is without the window modification, so both side panels are plain. The Bitfenix logo is emblazoned in red on the front of the case and two blue racing stipes are accented vertically. At the side of the case is an Overclockers UK badge, which matches the colours of the case well. It has a relatively small footprint which we also like.

We reviewed the windowed version over here.

The Shinobi is a well designed case with strong connectivity at the top. Two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports rest aside the power, reset and headphone/microphone connectors.

The Shinobi case has the power supply mounted at the bottom and watercooling holes at the side of the expansion bay section. The Gigabyte Z77 motherboard has DVI and VGA ports, which are covered as OCUK are using a discrete Sapphire HD7770 graphics card.

  1. I like the case, but i would personally have opted for a cheaper cooler for the CPU, a smaller storage drive, maybe even 4GB of ram. With the money saved on those, it could be put into the graphics card.

  2. Another 7770 would make a lot of difference in regards to the gaming power, but im surprised that the 7770 is quite capable at 1080p anyway with a lot of games. just shows how overkill the really high end cards are for most people.

  3. Good points:

    good CPU and cooler choice
    case is great.

    Bad points.

the machine is really not classed as a gamers machine with a 7770 in it. I think they could have balanced it a little better by lowering the cost of some items as someone else said and by then maybe using a grade up in the discrete department.

Also the case needs more OCUK branding on it. This is why Alienware and Dell sell well for such expensive systems. you are buying something that looks like nothing else. Like Apple.

Shame they couldnt work with a company to do special colours and logos on their system builds. it might attract more attention.
