OCUK Evolution Wrath System Review (w/ Fury)

The Overclockers UK Evolution Wrath is a very powerful gaming system that can also handle a myriad of semi professional tasks thanks to the highly overclocked state of the Core i7 4790k processor.

It is reassuring to see that OCUK haven't dropped the ball in regards to selecting high grade partnering hardware. The system is built around the very capable Gigabyte Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard which proved rock stable in our labs throughout a full week of stress testing. Even though we tried creating unstable situations by running Prime and Furmark simultaneously for a full 24 hours, the system didn't crash – a synthetic stress situation which would never be inflicted on the system under real world conditions.

We have already reviewed the Sapphire Tri-X R9 Fury graphics card and it earned one of KitGuru's highest awards. Performance at 1440p is excellent and if you are in the market for a Ultra HD 4K monitor then the system can deliver a very good experience. It is true that it will take two high end graphics cards to truly deliver a super smooth 4K gaming experience with the highest image quality settings in many of the latest game engines, but it is certainly a great foundation to build upon.

OCUK have incorporated a fast Samsung 850 EVO drive to handle boot and OS duties, alongside a 2TB HDD for storage. The 8GB of 2,400mhz DDR3 memory will be fine for gamers but if you have the need to handle more serious tasks such as 3D rendering or video encoding then the  upgrade to 16GB seems like a wise move – it is only £50 extra.

If you are in the market for a new gaming rig and are busy with work and unable to dedicate the time for the building phase then the OCUK Evolution Wrath is undoubtedly a great investment. The component selection is stellar and the build quality is top drawer.

We would consider upgrading the boot SSD to a slightly larger capacity – 120GB may not be enough long term. Thankfully the upgrade to a 250GB Samsung 850 EVO is only £20 extra.
