Resident Evil 5 may be one of the more contentious entries in the series, but the game still deserves to be treated well by its developers. In a surprise update, Resident Evil 5 on Steam has been patched to remove Games for Windows Live, has added local split-screen support, and has also included some other nifty additions.

In going to the Resident Evil 5 patch notes on Steam, Capcom have detailed 3 specific improvements:

• Removed Games for Windows Live support.
• Will support local split screen co-op.
• Some other minor bug fixes.

On their own, these three changes are more than worthy of note, especially the inclusion of local split-screen co-op after almost 15 years. That said, fans have discovered a number of other changes and additions brought about by this update including extra customisation options for the camera as well as what appears to be ultrawide support.

While it is not necessarily surprising to see Games for Windows Live removed from the title – as that service has long been defunct and only adds complications in 2023 – the other additions are all highly surprising and very welcome. Hopefully other games get a similar treatment.
