Steam breaks records with 30 million concurrent users

Over the past few years, we have seen the Steam platform grow from strength to strength, surpassing its own concurrent user count on a semi-regular basis. Now, the platform has reached a new major milestone, seeing more than 30 million users online at the exact same time.

As reported by SteamDB, yesterday saw Valve’s platform break its own concurrent user record with more than 30 million Steam users online – 30,032,005 to be exact. For the past two years – aided by COVID-19 – Steam’s concurrent user count has been rising, with the platform first hitting 20 million concurrent users back in March of 2020.

Seeing the platform grow by 50% in such a short time is impressive, and showcases just how popular PC gaming is currently. Of course, concurrent user counts ebb and flow, and as of writing the concurrent users have now dropped back down to 26 million. Still, 30 million concurrent users even for a moment is a major feat.

While not the only storefront on PC, Steam certainly is the biggest. As other clients such as GOG and Epic Games Store continue to gain an audience, however, it’ll be curious to see whether Valve’s cash cow will forever reign supreme, or if it’s currently as big as it will get.
