SEGA is not delisting Sonic Generations on Steam (sort of)

Ahead of the upcoming release of Sonic x Shadow Generations, SEGA removed the original 2011 version of the game from the Xbox 360 store, sparking fears that the same might happen to the popular Steam release. Luckily, SEGA appears to have been listening, as they have decided to take a compromising approach with the current PC version of Sonic Generations.

Releasing a statement via Twitter, the official Sonic the Hedgehog page shared the following: “We're excited to share SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS with you this October and see a new generation cherish this game as much as we do! On 9/9, the original Sonic Generations will be removed as a standalone title. But, we've heard your feedback, and want to help preserve the game.”

They continued, “Therefore, Sonic Generations will still be available via bundles of other iconic Sonic titles on Steam and Xbox. Existing owners of the title will still be able to download and play, as well. Lastly, we are happy to confirm that mods on the Steam version will NOT be affected!”

While delisted games typically remain accessible to those who previously purchased the title, rarely if ever has there been a situation in which a game is semi-delisted, but will still be available to buy in bundles.

While certainly not the optimum situation, making the OG Sonic Generations available to purchase in one form or another is a welcome move – especially as the 2011 version has a healthy modding community.
