New PlayStation Accessories app launches on PC

Throughout this generation, we have seen Sony make an increased effort in trying to capture the PC market. From the release of PlayStation exclusives on PC as well as additional hardware support for the platform, the console maker is clearly trying to extend its reach. As part of this, Sony has now officially announced a new PlayStation Accessories app for PC.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official PlayStation account said “Starting today PC gamers can unleash the full customizable power of the DualSense Edge controller directly on their computer. With the PlayStation Accessories app, customize the controller’s settings and update its firmware directly from your Windows PC.”

For the uninitiated, the PlayStation Accessories app was previously known as the ‘Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller’. As could be gleaned from the name, its previous function was limited solely to updating the PS5 controller’s firmware.

With this latest update however, the revamped Accessories app can now do a whole lot more, including being able to “create, edit, and switch between custom profiles on PC”. DualSense Edge users in particular will be able to benefit from this upgrade, with the app now letting you adjust all manner of settings – including trigger/thumbstick deadzones, sensitivity and more.

In just a few short years, Sony has gone from almost completely ignoring the PC space to wholly embracing it. Hopefully they continue to refine and improve their support for the platform.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the new app? Will you use it? What is your preferred controller of choice on PC? Let us know down below.
