Modern Warfare II’s campaign launch sees huge success on Steam

After years away from the platform. Call of Duty is finally back on Steam. Modern Warfare II represents the first COD game to land on the platform since 2017’s Call of Duty WW2. Though the game has yet to even come out fully (with only the campaign currently available), MWII is already a huge success with nearly 100,000 concurrent users on Steam.

As reported by Benji-Sales on Twitter, Call of Duty Modern Warfare II’s early access launch – which saw those who pre-ordered the game able to play the campaign a week early – represents a major success for the franchise’s return to Steam.

With 94,655 concurrent players, Call of Duty Modern Warfare II managed to achieve the 3rd highest concurrent player count in the history of Call of Duty on Steam, only behind Black Ops (2010) and the original Modern Warfare 2 (2009).

As mentioned, 2022’s MWII has yet to release in an official capacity, with only the campaign currently available for launch. Considering the fact that MWII managed a healthy 3rd place despite the game’s biggest draw – its multiplayer – not being available yet is impressive to say the least, and suggests that when the full game does release on the 28th of October it will be huge. We will have to wait and see.
