Each week, the Epic Games Store offers users of its storefront a video game for free. This week, those with an Epic Games account can get their hands on the unique 2D metroidvania platformer Dandara. The game will be available to purchase and download for free from now until the 4th of February.

Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition is a “unique 2D metroidvania platformer full of mystical creatures and boundless exploration” which sees you “Defy gravity as you jump across floors, walls, and ceilings alike.”

“The world of Salt hangs on the brink of collapse. The citizens, once free spirits, now stand oppressed and isolated. But not all is lost, for out of this aether of fear arises a heroine, a ray of hope. Her name is Dandara.”

Dandara received a mixed reception from both critics and fans alike upon its release in 2018 in part to the game seemingly not maximising the potential of its unique traversal and mechanics. Still, the game is certainly unique, and as such may be worth checking out – especially as the ‘Trials of Fear Edition’ has addressed many of the issues with the game’s original release.

Dandara: Trials of Fear Edition is available to purchase and download for free from now until the 4th of February, at which point it will be replaced by ‘For The King’
