God of War is Sony’s biggest PC launch to date

While Sony clearly still puts a lot of stake into the notion of first-party exclusive games, the console manufacturer has now shown that it is willing to put some of its biggest titles out for PC players to enjoy. 2018’s God of War recently came to Steam – to a welcome reception.

With just shy of 75,000 peak concurrent players, God of War is by far Sony’s biggest launch on the platform so far. Other Sony published games – namely Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone saw respective all-time peak concurrent player counts of 56,557 and 27,450.

That’s not all however, as it seems early reception towards the game is more positive than any other Sony PC project to date. With a 97% positive rating on Steam, God of War is currently the highest rated PlayStation game on Steam, with Horizon and Days Gone seeing lower scores of 84% and 93% respectively.

Of course, God of War’s score is likely to slip over time, however even so, it appears as though God of War’s PC launch was a success. Of the 3 titles, God of War also performed the best critically on PlayStation, and so this comes as no surprise that the PC release likewise reflects this.

This is doubly the case when considering the fact that Horizon Zero Dawn’s PC port was less-than-perfect at launch (though it is now in a good state). While Days Gone’s PC port was solid, the game itself is much less well-regarded when compared to both Horizon and God of War. As such, the current standing of these Sony titles on Steam makes sense. God of War’s PC port was said to have been in development for at least 2 years, and so it seems fans are now seeing the fruits of this labour.
