Gamescom 2021: Ray-tracing and DLSS confirmed for Guardians of the Galaxy

Ray-tracing and DLSS are two of the biggest and most recent breakthroughs in video game technology. With ray-tracing creating a much more dynamic and life-like image at the cost of performance, and DLSS using machine learning to increase the perceived resolution thereby improving performance, the two technologies work well in tandem. It has now been confirmed that the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy will use both.

As part of Gamescom 2021, Nvidia provided fans with a look at some of the upcoming games which are set to use the company’s technology. Alongside confirmation that titles such as Battlefield 2042, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, Black Myth: Wukong, Bright Memory: Infinite, Chivalry 2, Faraday Protocol, GRIT, Loopmancer, Myst will be getting ray-tracing, the company also confirmed that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy would receive the ray-tracing experience.

Making the announcement, Nvidia revealed that “when Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy launches on October 26, the PC version will launch with ray-traced reflections and NVIDIA DLSS, giving GeForce RTX gamers the definitive PC experience.”

Those who do not have a ray-tracing capable GPU can still experience the enhancements brought by RTX, as the company also confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy will be playable via Nvidia’s GeForce Now service.

As part of this announcement, a sneak peak at the game running with ray-tracing on an RTX 3080 was released, giving fans a first look at this technology running on Guardians of the Galaxy.
