Epic Games Store finally gets a cart feature

The Epic Games Store has spent many years now trying to compete with Steam and gain a foothold in the PC market. Unfortunately, the Epic Games Store lacks many basic features found within digital storefronts. Finally, one of the most convenient and core features – namely a shopping cart – has been added.

Making the announcement on their blog, Epic Games excitedly announced that “Today is a pretty big day around here. You may have noticed a new feature at the top right of the Store launcher and website. (Go ahead, take a look. We’ll wait.) That’s it – the Shopping Cart! We tucked it in right up there next to your wishlist. If you’ve shopped online before, the cart works exactly as you’d expect.”

With the Fortnite developers themselves admitting that what they have created is a standard online shopping cart, it does beg the question as to why it took 3 years to add the functionality. While there is an argument to be made that a lightweight and minimalist storefront can make for a pleasant experience, this argument is undone in cases such as this, where basic features are missing.

With all that being said, this new addition is a large step in making the Epic Games Store much more competitive. Hopefully the rate at which the store front recevies improvements only goes up from here.
