Destiny 2’s Lightfall DLC pushes game to new concurrent record on Steam

Destiny 2 has enjoyed a healthy user base for the entirety of the game’s 5+ years on the market. That said, the latest Lightfall DLC has been presented as a major moment for Destiny – and this has been met with a similarly major boost in the game’s player count; pushing the title to a new concurrent player count record on Steam.

At 9PM on the 28th of February 2023 Destiny 2 broke its own peak concurrent user record, amassing a total of 316,651 players. This marks a pretty significant increase over the previous record of 292,314 peak players and is doubly impressive when taking into account the fact that the previous record was set all the way back in September 2019 during the game’s Steam launch.

With the release of each major expansion we have seen interest in Destiny 2 peak, with many instances seeing the game near its Steam launch figures in terms of concurrent players –  though never surpassing it.

That Destiny 2 is hitting new highs more than 5 years later is testament to the fact that the team at Bungie are able to keep striking gold time and time again. It will be interesting to see whether this record will once again be broken.
