Announced all the way back in 2016 – and released in 2019 – Dauntless was an Epic Games Store exclusive monster-hunter-like title. While it could not compare to Capcom’s series, the game was enjoyed well enough. Unfortunately, the free-to-play game’s launch on Steam has come with a ton of unpopular changes.
5 years after it was first released as an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC, Dauntless has finally arrived on Steam alongside a massive update: dubbed Dauntless Awakening.
Unfortunately, the Steam launch has seemingly not gone to plan, with early reviews for the title sitting at an ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’.
Just one of the MANY changes brought about with this update includes the addition of lootboxes – an antiquated microtransaction system which has been banned in a number of countries.
Beyond this, the update has removed most weapons, with those left over only being obtainable via a battle pass. Build variety has also been reduced, which is a major blow for a Monster Hunter inspired title
All in all, it seems as though no one is happy with the launch of Dauntless Awakening. Hopefully the developers respond swiftly.
