One of the many changes seen with Assassin’s Creed Shadows prior to its release involved Ubisoft making the title a day-one release on Steam. So far, this pivot seems to have paid off, with AC Shadows breaking its franchise record for the highest peak concurrent users on the platform.
With a peak of 64,825 concurrent players, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is officially the most played entry in the series on Steam – surpassing the previous record holder (AC: Odyssey’s) 62,069 concurrents.
As mentioned, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the first AC game in a long time to launch day-one on Steam, with prior entries having an exclusivity period on PC (via Epic Games and Ubisoft’s Connect launcher).
As such, it isn’t too surprising to see the latest entry surpass prior titles in this particular metric. Of course, Steam charts are just one way to determine a game’s success.
That said, given that the title has so far surpassed 2 million players in a couple days and has received pretty solid reviews (especially for the series), Assassin’s Creed Shadows could very well become the hit that Ubisoft desperately needs.
