Almost 2/3rds of all Cyberpunk 2077 players are on PC

Despite its ubiquity across multiple gaming platforms nowadays, CD Projekt Red has always been a PC-centric studio, with the original The Witcher being a PC exclusive and its sequel coming only to Xbox on the console side. Despite selling millions upon millions of copies of both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 across PlayStation/Xbox since, new data has revealed just how much of the audience still hail from CDPR's home platform.

As part of the company’s latest earnings report, CDPR shared a ton of new and interesting details surrounding the platform audience breakdown of both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.

Since its launch back in 2020, Cyberpunk has gone on to sell over 30 million copies – with its Phantom Liberty expansion alone adding a further 8 million. Between all these copies, PC easily takes the greatest market share, with CDPR revealing that 63% of all sales for the game have come from the PC platform. This is followed by PlayStation at 26% and Xbox at 12%.

Interestingly, The Witcher 3 saw a much more even distribution of sales across systems, with PlayStation seeing 32.7% of all sales and PC landing at 40.3% (with the remaining 27% split between Xbox and Switch).

Of course, Cyberpunk 2077 is a much more advanced game technologically and graphically when compared to The Witcher 3, lending itself better to PCs. Combine this with an infamous poor launch on consoles, and it makes sense why Cyberpunk 2077 has done so well on PC. It will be interesting to see what the split for The Witcher 4 winds up looking like.
