A Plague Tale: Innocence is now available for free

Each week, the Epic Games Store offers a number of games for free. This week represents an exciting one for EGS users, as A Plague Tale: Innocence is now available to purchase and download entirely for free. Alongside this is the 2D “combat racer” Speed Brawl.

Update: Speed Brawl has since been replaced by the indie adventure puzzler ‘Minit', which as the name implies, sees you play the game in 60 second chunks before your character dies. with a black and white art style and a unique concept, Minit is certainly worth a try.

A Plague Tale: Innocence represented the breakout hit title from Asobo Studio, who are now well known for having developed the impressive Microsoft Flight Simulator. A Plague Tale: Innocence offers a bleak but beautiful stealth-focused action adventure thriller game, which sees you, Amicia, take care of your sick brother as you both evade not only the Spanish Inquisition, but also a plague which has seen flesh-eating rats take over. The game was received well and sold over 1 million copies in just over a year, warranting a sequel – which is set to release some time in 2022.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Speed Brawl is an action-heavy 2D combat-racer all about “moving fast and hitting hard”. Offering “6 unique Brawlers with their own play styles,” “loads of upgrades to customize each fighter and blast through the competition” and both couch and online co-op throughout the entirety of the campaign, Speed Brawl simply looks like a lot of fun.

Whatever mood you’re in, this week’s free Epic Games Store titles will surely satisfy. Both A Plague Tale: Innocence and Speed Brawl are available to purchase and keep forever for free from now until the 12th of August.
