So, after looking at the Cyberpower Ultra 79 XTX in detail and putting it through its paces with our benchmark suite, it’s undeniably a bit of a beast, but that’s no less than you would expect for the £3249 price tag.
It will handle anything you throw at it with ease, but its gaming performance is where this machine shines. Frame rates were respectable in all of the titles I benchmarked and the scores in tests like PCMark show that it’s no slouch with general work applications too.
I would have loved to have seen 6000MHz memory included in the build as standard, but as I mentioned earlier, it can be added in on the Cyberpower configurator at the time of ordering, something which I recommend doing if you choose to pick one of these systems up.
Also regarding the specification, it may well be worth configuring this machine to include the Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU, something that can be done on Cyberpower's website for an extra £91. For that extra £91 you’re going to be taking advantage of an extra 2 cores per CCD, so that's two extra cores with that magical 3D V-cache than what we have here with the 7900X3D….if it was me spending this much money on a new rig, that’d be a really compelling upgrade that I’d probably go for.
The cost versus building your own is very competitive. I configured a system on PCPartPicker that is very close to the original spec shown here and it’s not too far off at all, with prices fluctuating as much as to make the difference range from £50-£150. That is a competitive price from Cyberpower, that markup is a relatively small price to pay for the peace of mind that the warranty and customer support will offer. This PC comes with 5 Years' Labour, 2 Years' Parts, 2 Years' Collect and Return plus Life-Time Technical Support. That alone could worth the difference for a newcomer to the world of custom PCs.
Overall, we are impressed with the Ultra 79 XTX and if you're looking for a machine that will handle gaming with ease, then this will fit in to that category. We do think that the specification could have been slightly improved with the changes to the CPU and memory that were mentioned earlier in the review, but we can't deny the grunt on offer from the 7900X3D and 7900 XTX. The warranty on offer is great and will give peace of mind to anyone who picks a system up from Cyberpower and encounters any issues.
